A Home Before Goodbye: Photographing a Family Leaving Abu Dhabi

Before the summer, I photographed dear friends who were about to leave Abu Dhabi forever.

We didn’t go to the Louvre Abu Dhabi or the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. They are breathtaking places and some of the most iconic locations for wedding photography in Abu Dhabi, family portraits, and destination photo sessions. But my friends weren’t tourists. They had already lived the real Abu Dhabi.

Instead, we stayed at home.

Yes, in that temporary home that people often call “just a stop between one life and another.” But I don’t believe in pauses like that. There are no pauses in life.

That apartment was home. It was where three little boys learned to walk, celebrated birthdays, built pillow forts, laughed, cried, and grew up. Every wall held memories. Every room carried the quiet rhythm of everyday family life.

As a family and wedding photographer in Abu Dhabi, I often think the most meaningful photographs aren’t created at famous landmarks. They’re created in the places where real life happens.

Years from now, these photographs won’t remind this family of a building. They’ll remind them of a feeling: the sunlight through their living room window, toys scattered across the floor, bedtime stories, and one ordinary home that quietly became part of their family’s history.

Sometimes the most beautiful place for a photoshoot isn’t a famous destination.

Sometimes it’s simply home.
